Search Tools for Students
I designed this page to provide research options for students who need to do Web searches, but who might not want to use the popular search engines which return links from the entire Web. There are many wonderful resources for students, and I have included my favorites on this page.
To use this page, I believe younger students need two things: 1) an adult to monitor their Internet use and assist when needed, and 2) a dictionary to check the spelling of search words they enter. (Of course, students can also use the online dictionaries.)
The tools on this page will provide first-level access to only a subset of Web resources. While students will be statistically more likely to find only relevant sites, they unfortunately may not find some of the best information that is available on the Internet, so adults may be needed to find additional information.
For convenience, I have added some links to a few other commonly-needed resources besides search engines - maps and links to author information.
I hope this service will be of help to students of all ages.
